A charming family run historical villa turned into a vacation home in the south of Tuscany with ocean view and a roof terrace

Porto Santo Stefano

This is the beautiful fishing and sailing town where our villa is located. You can find many restaurants and shops along the promenade. There is a fresh fish vendor at the harbour and you can rent boats and watersports gear nearby. Dine at the beach at Due Pini Restaurant or the pier next to our house at Ristorante Il Moletto. Grab a slice of Pizza at … for lunch and enjoy your Aperitivo with the locals at Bar Giulia. Cin cin!

Connecting the peninsula with the main land, Duna di Feniglia is a beautiful long sandy beach next to an ancient pine forest. It is a protected nature reserve and one of a kind. You can rent bikes at the beginning of Feniglia and ride through the “Pineta” pine forest to a remote part of the free beach and set up camp there. Or you can stay in the front part, where you can use sun chairs and umbrellas for a small fee. Enjoy the summery smell of warm pine needles and take a swim in the ocean. Easily one of our favourite places!

Porto Ercole

Porto Ercole is very cute and perfect for a small afternoon trip. It is just 20 minutes by car from our Villa and the only other town on the peninsula. Like Porto Santo Stefano it is a pituresque seaside town with a small harbour. You can walk along the quay, get some italian gelato in town or explore the 17th century castles Forte Filippo or Forte Stella and enjoy the view.

Terme di Saturnia is a natural thermal bath, very enjoyable to go in spring, autumn or during a cool summer evening. These hot springs are famous for their turquoise water in crescent-shaped limestone basins. Montemerano is a little village on a hill close by which offers some great restaurant options and is nice to explore, for example on the way to Saturnia or after a warm bath.

Isola del Giglio

Take the ferry or rent your own boat to get to the beautiful island of Giglio, it is woth it! The ferry takes approx. 30 mins, you can buy tickets at the docks. The shores are very beautiful for a swim from the boat and there are some beaches that are in walking distance from the Giglio harbour. You can also hike up to the top – Giglio Castello – or get some ice cream at Gelateria Artigianale Da Nilo, famous for the local blackberry flavour. Definitely worth a day trip!

Cala Grande is just on the other side of the hill from our villa. It’s a beautiful bay with turquoise water and very inviting for a swim in the ocean or a jump off the cliffs for those who dare. It can be easily reached by boat from the harbour (you can rent a small one without license at Zeurino) or by car. Be prepared to walk down quite a bit from the main coasal road. You can also walk the whole way, but it will take little more than one hour.

If you like hiking you can also find many trails on the peninsula or the surrounding coastline. There is a golf course in the area and for those seeking adrenaline, find it skydiving above the Island. Kids and grown-ups can learn about local marine life at the aquarium in town.
There is plenty more to see and many good restaurants and gelaterias to try.
